It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that your family is eating the right things and can help them on their way to a healthier lifestyle. Trust me, no adjustments necessary on their part, all they know is the food you are serving them are so delicious.
There is so much to learn and I am anxious to get started.
I grew up in the 50’s and at most dinner tables at that time were assorted mason jars full of home canned foods. There was apple butter, chili sauce, bread n butter pickles and almost always some kind of canned fruit, for my family it was mostly peaches. Our vegetables were either frozen or home canned. Our pantry was stocked with mostly flour, sugar, lard and paper bags full of picked and dried tea ingredients. In my house it was Stinging Nettle and Chamomile buds, only the German Chamomile flowers have that medicinal power so don’t just pick one to grow unless it is a German variety. My mom would mix it all together and use it to make teas that surprisingly can do many many good, wholesome, healing and wonderful things for your body. I will get into that also. Instead of boxes of processed foods there were canning jars with every possible kind of food and glass jars with tea remedies and don’t forget the cookie jar with home made cookies.
You don’t have to go so extreme as my mom.
Of course there are so many techniques to make life so much easier than it was back then. What I want you to learn is what you have available when you decide to try some of our tips and how to’s. I want to make sure you understand everything so I will explain it in a step by step and keep things neat in this site so you will be able to find it when you need it.
There has been so much new research and awareness in the last decade about the power of many foods that are free for the picking. I have lots of favorite foods that I get regularly for free. One example is Elderberry, the fruit grows wild and you have to look hard to find it, but when you do and you put the goodness of elderberry to use in pies, jams, wine, you will be seeking out this fruit forevermore. There is so much food out there that is naturally growing. I am learning about weeds that I have been trying to keep off my lawn and the benefits of those are astounding. Some weeds actually kill cancer cells and can reduce the size of tumors and so on and so on, the benefits are amazing. Dandelions are a hated weed, but did you know the wonderful vitamins and nutrients from dandelions? I promise you will. I will cover all those hated weeds and how eating them can benefit your health. So put away your round-up. i have a much better approach to controlling unwanted weeds. And its much better for your health and the critters of this earth.
Fast food has become the number one cause of obesity.
I have not eaten fast food in three years. I still enjoy restaurants but not as often as most. Frankly, fast food is killing us. All the crap in the food is so bad for you. French fries are an easy way to eat but french fries are meant for once in a while. We are eating french fries everyday. The additives in food to make it taste good are also so bad for your body. I will also get into that point because I am so mad at the fast food industry. They make commercials to entice you to believe that your doing yourself a favor by running to grab food to go instead of making it yourself and the health benefits of home cooking outweighs fast food by a billion times. The commercials are so appealing. It is almost impossible to resist that burger that tops all burgers and fries with pie for dessert. You have no clue how many toxins and poisonous crap they throw in to make everything taste so good.
I know, I know your busy, you work.
So do I by the way. I work in a factory. Six days a week. It is very trying on my body and I don’t have a lot of time to spare. That is why I take baby steps when I have to. I try to plan my picking my tea ingredients on a certain week of the year. and my planting on certain times. i go small scale so it doesn’t get away from me if I don’t have time to take care of a garden. You can still serve good food to your family by buying local and preserving fresh vegetables yourself. I will advise you to buy an upright freezer so you can reap the benefits of freezing fresh vegetables yourself. I cannot express to you the awesomeness of cooking corn that you cut from the cob yourself and froze. When you do you’ll feel the way I do. My home frozen corn tastes like it just came off the cob that day. No frozen corn in the grocery store can ever come close to that taste.
So stick with me and I will keep you informed on the best and easiest ways to feed your family healthy food. It won’t hurt and it will not be a chore. You will appreciate everything you make or grow yourself and so will your family. I will put as many projects for the busy mom as I can find and if you ever need advice or help or want to learn something that I haven’t covered on here yet, don’t hesitate to contact me, and I will put it on my next project list.
I also am passionate about natural ways to do things like control weeds, pet fleas, pet shampoo, etc, all the things that contain chemicals, I just started researching and found many ways to stop using chemicals on my lawn, my hair, my body, my animals. I am hoping to prolong my pets lives. I am thereby, reducing the amount of toxic chemicals being used in my house..Especially in the winter when the toxic chemicals are trapped in a house due to cold weather. They just linger in the air and stick to walls and furniture. There are many do-able ways to an alternative to healthy air, First way is to reduce the amount of chemicals you use in your home. I will go into that also.
