A Banana A Day Keeps The Doctor Away?
Those of us who are used to it being an apple a day keeps the doctor away will have to adjust to this, but the up and coming generation will learn this to be truth. Oh, don’t get me wrong, apples are very good for you, BUT, the banana is now considered a super fruit, meaning it is packed with so much goodness far beyond what normal fruits and vegetables have to offer. This simple fruit has enough goodness in it to really ward of the doctor. Ha, believe it or not. It is Truth.

The benefits from eating bananas are, for example, their potassium content. Bananas are a great source of potassium, which is an essential mineral for maintaining a normal blood pressure and greatly improves your heart function. One medium-sized banana contains an amazing 400-plus mg of potassium. Having one banana a day will help prevent heart desease.
Many studies on the banana proves that it can effectively lower your blood pressure and control your cholesterol level. Researchers have tracked over 40,000 American male health professionals over four years to determine the effects of diet on blood pressure. The men who consumed high potassium diets had a much less rate of heart desease and stroke and also had lower cholesterol levels of those that did not consume foods with potassium.
Another type of cardiovascular benefit from bananas involved their sterol content. Because bananas are a very low-fat food , one type of fat that they do contain in small amounts are sterols like sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol. These sterols look structurally similar to cholesterol, but they can block the absorption of dietary cholesterol. Because they block absorption, they can help us keep our blood cholesterol levels in where they should be.
Yet another cardiovascular benefit from a banana is in their fiber content. With about 3g in one medium banana, we can safely say bananas as a good source of fiber. Considering about one-third of the fiber in bananas is water-soluble fiber.This basically means that 1 gram of fiber is soluble . Soluble fiber in the banana is a type of fiber associated with decreased risk of heart disease, Eating a banana a day will lower your heart attack or stroke risk.

Bananas are amazing with their combination of carbohydrate and sugar content. Bananas receive a rating of low in their glycemic index (GI) value. GI measures the impact of a food on our blood sugar. A low GI is related to the low cholesterol benefits of the banana.
Bananas also contain pectins, which are water-soluble. As a banana starts to ripen, their water-soluble pectins increase, so does their concentration of fructose. This increase in water-soluble pectins and higher fructose content helps normalize the rate of carbohydrate digestion and controls our blood sugar. This causes some awesome digestion-friendly consequences for our once overlooked banana
Basically the banana is responsible for moving our foods through our digestive system and keeping it on track. As you know, our immune system is mostly in our intestinal tract. Eating the banana is very helpful in keeping our digestive system going in a normal way so that our immune system can do what is suppose to do. Keep us healthy.
So, in a nutshell, the banana can help you maintain a healthy bowel function will help you allow your immune system to function the way it should. When you are constipated or have diarrhea, your immune system will be blocked from warding off desease. Also the wonderful benefits for your heart and cardiovascular system as well. I must tell you the one thing I absolutely love about the banana is that they come in their own container. Most other fruits have to be washed and covered in bags or boxes for lunch. Not the banana. You can carry the banana in your pocket without fear of contamination. It is perfectly happy in its own little yellow coat to travel how it will. you cant throw an apple in your pocket or purse. But the banana, along with oranges can stand alone. Won’t it be so funny to soon see children bringing bananas to their teacher instead of apples now? I remember bringing my teacher an apple and she would set it on her desk with all the other apples that kids would bring. I wonder how that started.
